Shepherds have always known something the rest of us have forgotten. They know how to wait. They know how to read the sky, the wind, the weight of an animal's silence. They know that the land gives and takes back, and that there is no negotiating with either.
Di Sangue, Latte e Cielo — Blood, Milk and Sky — is a long-term documentary project about pastoral cultures and the people who still live them. Not as folklore. Not as nostalgia. As a way of being in the world that is disappearing faster than anyone is paying attention to.
I started in Sardinia and Abruzzo, two places where the pastoral tradition runs so deep it has shaped the language, the food, the architecture, the silences between people. What I found were men and women who carry an entire civilization in their hands — and who are largely invisible to the world that depends on them.
The project will continue across Georgia, Morocco, Patagonia, Mongolia and Central Asia. The thread connecting all of them is the same: one rhythm, many lands.
