About
Francesco Grigori Di Bene is a photographer and documentary filmmaker based in Rome. He makes corporate documentaries for craft, manufacturing and agricultural businesses and pursues long-term photographic projects on pastoral cultures and portraiture.
I tell stories through images and video.
My work comes from the language of reportage: observing, listening, giving back what really exists. I don’t build artificial images. I look for what is already there and make it visible.
The method comes before the shot. I enter a place, get to know the people who live in it, and wait until they stop acting. Only then do I start working. This holds as much for a manufacturing company that wants to show its production process as for a Sardinian shepherd who doesn’t trust photographers.
I have been a photographer for about sixteen years. Before that I worked as a graphic designer, and from that I kept the habit of thinking a project through to the printed page: I lay out my books myself.
I work in two directions that intertwine. On one side, corporate documentaries for craft, manufacturing and agricultural businesses. On the other, long-term personal projects, such as “Of Blood, Milk and Sky”, on pastoral cultures, which grew out of the story of my grandfather, a shepherd in Campotosto, and “Chronogenics”, a series of portraits in triptych. I work alone or with very small crews.
And I ride my motorcycle as much as I can. I have followed three editions of the Motogiro d’Italia.
