Corporate documentary

A corporate documentary, or company film, is a short film that tells the story of a company through the people who make it: the owner, those who work in the workshop, in the fields, on the factory floor, the gestures, the materials, the places. No actors, no voice-over reading a slogan. I make them for craft, manufacturing and agricultural businesses, throughout Italy and abroad.

Why a company film

Many companies do work that is difficult, precise, often unique. But from the outside it cannot be seen.

A documentary shows what words cannot explain: how long it takes, how much handwork goes into it, why it costs what it costs.

How I work

The method comes before the shot. I enter the company, get to know the people who live in it, and wait until they stop acting. Only then do I start filming. It is the same way I work with a Sardinian shepherd who doesn’t trust photographers.

I work alone or with a very small crew. In a workshop, a cowshed or on the factory floor, this means not stopping production and not making anyone feel uneasy.

The stages

  1. Meeting and site visitI get to know the company, the people, the places. Together we work out what the film has to do and for whom.
  2. Pre-interviewsI talk to the people who will appear, without a camera. The best answers are the ones that aren’t prepared.
  3. Filming4 to 6 days on location, following the real work.
  4. EditingA first cut, a review with you, the final version.
  5. DeliveryThe main film and the derived materials.

Da Dentro

For those who want to put the person rather than the process at the centre: a cinematic interview with entrepreneurs and professionals. The questions are not shared in advance, the silences stay in. The result is a portrait of the person behind a business.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a corporate documentary?

Usually between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on the story; the social versions from 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

Do we have to stop production?

No. I film during normal work, with light equipment.

Who has to speak in front of the camera?

Whoever really knows the work. You don’t need to be good at public speaking: the pre-interviews are there precisely to put people at ease.

How much does a corporate documentary cost?

From €6,000, depending on the number of shooting days and the complexity of the film. Travel expenses for work away from Rome are excluded.

Do you work outside Rome?

Yes, throughout Italy and abroad.

How is it different from a corporate video?

A corporate video presents the company as it would like to be seen. A documentary shows it as it is, and that is why people believe it.

Can we use it for trade fairs, our website, export, recruitment?

Yes, and that is why I also deliver short versions and photographs.
